The Club aims to provide students with opportunities to participate in literary, cultural and academic activities beyond the classroom. Through activities such as poetry recitation, storytelling, essay writing, debates, creative writing, seminars, workshops, cultural programmes and literary discussions, the Club will encourage students to express their ideas, creativity and talents.

I. Name of the Club: अपनी भाषा: साहित्य, संस्कृति एवं संवाद (Apni Bhasha: Sahitya, Sanskriti evam Samvaad)


II. Introduction/ Background:


The Department of Hindi, Shillong College, proposes to establish the Student’s Club ‘अपनी भाषा: साहित्य, संस्कृति एवं संवाद’ (Apni Bhasha: Sahitya, Sanskriti evam Samvaad) as a vibrant platform for students to develop their interest in Hindi language, literature, culture and meaningful communication. In the multilingual and multicultural context of Meghalaya and the North-East, Hindi serves as an important medium of communication and provides opportunities for interaction and cultural exchange among students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

The Club aims to provide students with opportunities to participate in literary, cultural and academic activities beyond the classroom. Through activities such as poetry recitation, storytelling, essay writing, debates, creative writing, seminars, workshops, cultural programmes and literary discussions, the Club will encourage students to express their ideas, creativity and talents.

‘अपनी भाषा’ (Apni Bhasha) will also contribute towards creating awareness about the richness of Hindi literature and the diverse cultural traditions of India while respecting and appreciating the languages, traditions and cultural heritage of Meghalaya. The Club will provide a platform for dialogue, collaboration and mutual understanding among students and promote values of creativity, inclusiveness, cultural harmony and academic growth.

The Club will function under the guidance of the Department of Hindi, Shillong College, and will encourage students to develop leadership, communication, organizational and creative skills through active participation in its activities.

III. Aims and Objective:


1. To promote Hindi as a language of unity, literature and communication in the multilingual context of North-East India.


2. To promote Literature (Sahitya) - through Kavi Goshthi (Poet’s meet), Kahani Path (Story telling), Nibandh (Essay), Vaad-Vivaad (Debate), Kavya Rachna evam Kavya Paath ( Poetry Writings & Recitation).


3. To promote Culture (Sanskriti) - through celebration of Hindi Diwas, Fresher’s Meet, Farewell Meet, Study tour, Mother Tongue Day, Hindi Literature Prominent Writers Day Celebration, Folk performances.


4. To promote Dialogue (Samvaad) - through dialogue, seminars, invited lectures and inter-departmental collaboration.


5. To publish the annual Wall Magazine / E-Patrika titled “Apni Bhasha”.


6. To develop student’s leadership, anchoring, writing and organizational skills.

ARTICLE I: NAME AND LOCATION


1. The Club shall be called अपनी भाषा: साहित्य, संस्कृति एवं संवाद (APNI BHASHA (Sahitya, Sanskriti evam Samvaad)

2. Its office shall be located in the Department of Hindi, Shillong College.

3. Its motto shall be: “Bhasha Se Samvaad, Samvaad Se Sanskriti”


ARTICLE II: AIMS AND OBJECTIVES


1. To promote Hindi as a language of unity, literature and communication in the multilingual context of North-East India.

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP


1. All students of Hindi as Major, Minor, and AEC are ex-officio members.

2. Any other student of Shillong College with interest in Hindi can become an Associate Member with approval of HOD.

3. Membership is valid for one academic years only.


ARTICLE IV: STRUCTURE


A. Advisory Board:

1. Patron: Principal, Shillong College

2. Advisor: Head, Department of Hindi

3. Teacher-in-Charge(s): Nominated by HOD


B. Executive Committee:

1. President – Faculty

2. Vice-President – Student from any Semester Hindi Major

3. Secretary – Student from 5th semester Hindi Major

4. Joint Secretaries- Two member, each from 3rd & 1st semester Hindi Major

5. Treasurer- Student from any Semester Hindi Major


Tenure of all posts shall be for one academic year.

ARTICLE V: SELECTION PROCESS


Office bearers shall be elected by student’s election. Election Committee shall be form prior Election. Comprising CR’s and ACR’s from all Semester.


ARTICLE VI: DUTIES


1. President: Preside over all meetings and functions, overall leadership.

2. Secretary: Convene meetings, prepare agenda & minutes, keep all records.

3. Treasurer: Maintain accounts, bills and present annual financial report.

4. All Secretaries: Plan and execute their respective domain activities under guidance of Teacher-in-Charge.


ARTICLE VII: MEETINGS


1. General Body Meeting: At least 2 times in session (Inaugural and Annual).

2. Executive Meeting: Once every two months.

3. Emergency Executive Meeting shall be call when needed.

3. Quorum: More than 50 % of Executive Members.

4. Notice: Minimum 7 days prior.


ARTICLE VIII: FINANCE


1. Sources: Need based collection from Students and Faculties.

2. All expenditure must be pre-approved by Teacher-in-Charge & HOD.


ARTICLE IX: DISCIPLINE AND CODE OF CONDUCT


Members must maintain discipline, respect all languages and cultures of Meghalaya and uphold the values of Shillong College. Any misconduct will lead to removal.


ARTICLE X: AMENDMENT & DISSOLUTION


Amendment requires 2/3 majority of Executive Committee plus approval of HOD & Principal. In case of dissolution, all assets and records shall be handed over to the Department of Hindi, Shillong College.

Report on Hindi Diwas Celebration

The Hindi Department of Shillong College under the student’s club अपनी भाषा: सं$कृित, सािह+य एवं संवाद (Apni Bhasha- Sanskriti, Sahitya evam Sanvad) celebrated the Hindi Diwas on 14th September 2026 with great enthusiasm and excitement. The day was made to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as one of the official language of India. The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of Hindi and to encourage the students to appreciate and promote the language.
