PELLICULA FILM CLUB

The Pellicula Film Club, Shillong College was started in 2025 with the aim of creating a space within the college where students can engage with cinema in a meaningful way. Recognizing film as one of the most powerful artistic and cultural mediums, the Club seeks to move beyond passive viewing and encourage active interpretation, discussion, and appreciation of cinema.

Cinema, through its combination of image, sound, and narrative, has the ability to reflect society, question ideas, and shape perspectives. From early film traditions to contemporary global cinema, it continues to influence how people understand culture, identity, and the world around them. The creation of the Pellicula Film Club responds to the need for such engagement within the college, where students can explore film not only as entertainment but also as an intellectual and creative practice.

The Club envisions building a vibrant community that brings together students, teachers, and other members of the college fraternity who share an interest in cinema. It aims to foster critical thinking, aesthetic appreciation, and open dialogue through regular screenings and discussions. By engaging with films from different cultures, genres, and traditions, members are encouraged to broaden their perspectives and develop a deeper understanding of cinematic language and storytelling.

The objectives of the club include:

  1. promoting awareness and appreciation of cinema,
  2. organizing film screenings, and encouraging discussion and analysis of films while
  3. providing support to students interested in filmmaking and visual storytelling by providing a platform for creative expression and collaboration. In addition,
  4. the Club aims at cultivating cultural awareness, encourage film criticism and film studies, and use cinema as a medium for social reflection and dialogue.
