13th S.C. Dutta Memorial Lecture

The Department of Microbiology, in collaboration with IQAC, Shillong College, organised the 13th S.C. Dutta Memorial Lecture on the theme “Antimicrobial Resistance: A Global Threat to Modern Medicine” on 17th September, 2026. Smt. Wankasaki Lytand, Faculty, Department of Microbiology welcomed the gathering, followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Zoliansanga, Head, Department of Microbiology. Prof. Damiki Laloo, Dean and Principal, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Girijananda Chowdhury University, served as the Resource Person and delivered an insightful lecture on the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. He highlighted its seriousness, discussed current challenges, and emphasised practical approaches and responsible action to combat antimicrobial resistance. The Principal, Dr. S. Khongwir, felicitated the Resource Person and, in his address, highlighted the significance of the memorial lecture, emphasising that antimicrobial resistance is not merely a challenge for the future but an issue that requires immediate attention and action. The programme was attended by the Vice Principal, Mrs. E. N. Dkhar; Vice Principal, Academic and Student Welfare, Dr. H. Diengdoh; IQAC Coordinator, Dr. S. Sarma; faculty members and students. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Pynhunshisha Kharkrang, Faculty, Department of Microbiology.
