Hostel

After years of planning under the leadership of former principal Dr (Mrs.) M. P. R. Lyngdohthe College took the initiative to go ahead with the plan to set up its own women’s hostel in the vacant plot of land under the holding of the College behind the St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong.

On 01/08/2008 the Building Committee made a resolution to appoint an architect to prepare the Building Plan and estimate for the proposed construction of the hostel. The Building Committee that was again held on the 01/10/2008 resolved to forward the Building Plan and estimate to the University Grants Commission, North Eastern Region, Guwahati seeking financial assistance under Special Scheme of Construction of Women’s Hostel. On March, 2009, the UGC, under the XI Plan sanctioned an amount of Rs 80,00,000 towards the construction of the Women’s Hostel. Since, the fund that was provided by the UGC was not sufficient to set up the complete infrastructure the  College further invested an amount of Rs. 1.5 crores towards the completion of the Hostel.

The members of the Building Committee at the inception of the hostel in 2008-2009:

D.B Gurung, Representatives from Administration and Accounts, Shri. J. Cajee and Jwatbor Cajee and associates, architects.

The hostel is being looked after by a Warden and a Hostel Advisory Committee is constituted in 2013 for the smooth running of the Hostel under the guidance of the principal.

Initially, the Hostel has an intake capacity of 40 students and since the opening year, batches of students have joined and left the Hostel after the completion of their respective courses. The hostel was constructed for extension of 2nd floor under the XIIth Plan of UGC scheme amounting to Rs. 40,00,000/- (Rupees forty lakh only) in the year 2016. In order to complete the whole building structure of three storied, the College authority took a decision to construct the remaining top floor from its own resources and the whole building was fully completed in the year 2017.

At present, there are 22 rooms with 70 hostellers and each floor has common bathrooms and toilets, a kitchen, dining hall, a store room and an office. CCTV has also been installed in the hostel for safety and security of the hostellers. The Hostel also have a Warden room, guest room, a sitting room cum parlor room where the visitors can sit and at the same time the hostellers can spent their free time to watch television. During any emergency the Hostel has got a Fire escape stair case right from the top floor to the ground floor and one emergency exit in the first floor.

Inauguration of Shillong College Women’s Hostel:

The hostel was finally inaugurated on the 15th of September, 2012 by the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya, Shri. W.M.S Pariat in the presence our former Principal Dr. K.D Ramsiej, Vice Principal, Dr. M. Dey, Vice Principal, Professional Courses, Dr. K.D Roy, members of the Governing Body, teaching staffs of the College besides many others.
