India is a country with a variety of ethnic, linguistic, regional, economic, religious, class and castes groups and is also permeated with immense differences and equalities that needs to be recognized and to value individual differences in the learning environment. The employees and students must be treated equally and given the same opportunity regardless of their race, age, gender, sexuality, disability that might be discriminated against them. With this aim, Shillong College established the PwD Welfare Committee in 2018 which was renamed as the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) in 2019 to ensure that staffs, especially the students can expect fair and equal treatment to avail opportunities and is free from unlawful discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimization during their precious years of gathering knowledge and wisdom in the college.

- Appointment of Grievance Redressal Officer for Disabilities: Smt. Pynhunshisha Kharkrang(Ref.No.:E:537/1(581)/2018/37 dated 09.08.2018).
- Letter was issued to the different departments of the college to help identify students with different types of disabilities and departments have done the needful.
- Staffs and Students of Shillong College Participated in a Signature Campaign to Celebrate the International Day of the Deaf on the theme “Sign language Rights for All” on the 24th September, 2019 organized by the Cell in collaboration with the Meghalaya Deaf Association.
- The Cell facilitate the participation of students in A Poster/Painting and Photography Competition to Celebrate the International Day of the Deaf on the theme “Sign language Rights for All” on the 27th September, 2019organized in collaboration with the Meghalaya Deaf Association.
